ACC Stands Out in Singapore

The Anima Christi Chorale (ACC) sang their way to Gold and Silver Awards in the 10th Orientale Concentus International Choral Festival, July 7-10, 2017 at School of the Arts (SOTA), Singapore.

ACC headed by their choirmaster Mr. Joel A. Boragay proudly represented the Quezon province, especially the city of Lucena, in the Mixed Voices and Sacred / Church Choir category of the Orientale Concentus X where they garnered Gold- Grade III and Silver- Grade II awards respectively.

Mixed Voices Category being held on day 1 of the event July 8, and Sacred / Church Choir category on day 2, July 9, ACC wasted no time to strive in bringing honor to their hometown.

Orientale Concentus, conceptualized in 2008 with the purpose of promoting international arts and cultural exchange and youth choral music development, has seen a successful run across China, Taiwan and South Korea. Participants in the tenth edition of the festival not only hail from host country, but also from China, Czech Republic, England, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Slovenia, Taiwan, and Thailand, with a total of thirty eight participating choirs.

Since the Orientale Concentus is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year, they had the most sought after adjudicators for the competition. Mr. Toh Ban Sheng from Singapore, Mr. Jae-Joon Lee of Korea, Mr. Mark Anthony Carpio from the Philippines, Mr. Paul Phoenix of England, and Mr. Stojan Kuret from Slovenia. The four-day event also facilitated Master Classes and Choral Exchange Activities and was organized by Ace 99 Cultural Pte Ltd.

In addition to the choral competition and master classes attended by the ACC members, they staged an outreach concert for the special needs children of the Filipino Community on July 9, at Orchard Central.

On July 12, ACC flew back to the Philippines bringing joy and gratitude to everyone who supported them and above all, God who guided and blessed them with their talents.

The Anima Christi Chorale is a non-profit, community based choir composed of students and young professionals from different schools and institutions in Lucena City. It is founded and led by Mr. Joel A. Boragay and is guided by its spiritual adviser Fr. Alexander “Dandy” Parafina since 2002.

Sacred Heart College takes pride in the achievements of this choir since majority of its members belong to the Cordian family. Mr. Joel Boragay, the choir’s founder and conductor is a full-time faculty of the Higher Education Department. Other Cordian ACC members are: Mr. Eduard D. Mancilla (HED faculty), Mr. Jeffrey Bautista (SHS faculty), Ms. Jennifer Perez (former School Nurse), Mrs. Roserene Boragay (parent), Ms. Clarisse Anne Sebuja (MAED student), Jan Kristian Bisagas (BSED 4 student), Catherine Mae Entrata (ABCom 4 student), Joel Isaac Boragay (Grade 10 student), and alumni from different colleges including Michael Andrew Lucero (BSN), Zcharmaine Barretto (BSN), Glenn Martinez (BSN), Geraldine Ludovice (BSED), Jay-R Maas (BSED), Amica Villaruel (BSED), and Marjun Gujilde (BSBA).

As part of its commitment of sharing beautiful music to the community and glorifying God through songs, ACC organizes outreach concerts in the Diocese of Lucena, Gumaca, and nearby Dioceses and serves in the Parish of the Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus, Cotta and in the Parish and Shrine of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, Gulang, Gulang, Lucena City, every first and fourth Sunday masses respectively.

Since the day the chorale was founded, they stand firm under their banner, “Not unto us Lord; but in your name be the glory”.
