Glory, honor, excellence. SHC holds 63d Commencement Exercises

Beaming proud parents, distinguished guests, relatives and friends of the graduates of batch 2009 were all in their fineries to convey their high regard to the 63d Commencement Exercises of the Higher Education Department of Sacred Heart College, held at SHC Cultural Center and Gymnasium on March 22.

Cordian graduates from different Colleges have made their way to reach their goal and are girded to transform lives. As the ceremony’s theme is singled out after the Jubilee Year theme – “Sacred Heart College, 125 years and beyond. Transforming Lives!” – the words that sum up the legacy of the institution for its 125 years of presence in the church and society of Southern Tagalog.

Bishop Emilio Z. Marquez spearheaded the baccalaureate mass and performed the blessing of diplomas, plaques, medals and certificates. The second part of the baccalaureate mass gave tribute to the sacrifices of the graduates in their different Colleges and Co-curricular activities, as they were awarded with due recognition.

The graduates surprised their parents with a gift that made everyone emotional when the former sang Raise Me Up while offering flowers to the latter after the communion rites.

Commencement Rites

Candidates for graduation and their parents had to contain their displeasure for being under the heat of the raging sun at around 2:00 in the afternoon, as they stood in two long lines, which stretched from the façade of the gymnasium to the mango trees, making the ceremonial march exhausting.

Competent Faculty Members

Faculty members of the Higher Education Department surprised everyone inside the gymnasium as they walked along the isle, garbed with different colored academic gowns that put a smile on everyone for what the parents have seen as an index of competitiveness after the ceremonial march of the candidates.

Proud Parents

Parents of the graduates were exceptionally proud of their children as well as emotional while putting on the hoods to the latter during the imposition of hoods. Parents and graduates trotted out their gladness and grabbed the photo op during the said imposition.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Marietta A. Asia, School Registrar presented the candidates for Graduation to SHC President Sr. Fe G. Gedalanga, D.C. The audience and the graduates were overwhelmed when Sr. Gedalanga conferred the different degrees to the graduates that made the gymnasium filled with permeating earsplitting uproar.

On the other hand, Dr. Josefina M. Parentela, VP for ARC introduced Dr. Nilo Rosas, Professional Regulation Commissioner as the Commencement Speaker who obtained three master’s degrees in the United States of America as well as a Doctoral Degree in the said country.

Dr. Rosas, who was clad with academic gown that was intricately embroidered with designs and symbols of his achievements, and a cap with red tussle began his speech in Filipino. He underscored the importance of education that would alleviate the country from poverty.

He also lauded the administration of Sacred Heart College for upholding the tradition of excellence, relevant and quality Catholic education for the past 125 years.

Meanwhile, the different College Deans and Mrs. Marietta A. Asia presented the academic honorees, academic-related awardees and the loyalty awardees respectively. Sr. Remedios Tidor, D.C., VP for Administration, Services and Finance and Dr. Juanito A. Merle, VP for Student Services and External Affairs assisted the College Deans in the awarding ceremony.

Sister President Gedalanga awarded the loyalty awards and diplomas to all the graduates succeeded by an address of gratitude from Mr. Jay-rom Carabido, Magna Cum Laude from the College of Nursing.
