With a theme “Mary and the Community of Faith” and the tags #MarianVigil and #Commion, Cordians celebrate the Solemnity of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception through a prayer vigil at the covered court of Sacred Heart College last December 7 – 8 as organized by the Christian and Vincentian Formation team.

The celebration started with the formation of Small Communio described by St. Paul: “as a body is one though it has many parts and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ.” – 1 Cor. 12:12. Opening Para liturgy: Enthronement of the Cross, Image of Mary and the Bible, was presided by Rev. Fr. John Eamon Panganiban. It was followed by the Communio roll call and the giving of house rules.

Rev. Fr. Ramil Esplana then explained what the Year of the Parish is all about and also talked about Mary as the Model of building the Community of Faith. Fr. Esplana described the Community of faith, experienced by Mary as: Christ - Centered, Eucharist - Centered, Charity - Based, and People - Oriented.

As Fr. Esplana finished his talk, he asked the participants to reflect on the level of their relationship to Mary and challenged each one to always be ready to take part on their responsibility of being a member of the Community of Faith. One of the activities is Creative Prayer Station which was done simultaneously with the film viewing. Participants were given a prayer booklet as their guide in doing the 10 Stations prepared at the gymnasium. Each station encompasses different symbolisms expressing each one’s personal prayers and intentions.

At 12 midnight of December 8, a Eucharistic Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Bryan Cabrera. In his homily, he emphasized the obedience of Mary to the Lord when she say ‘yes’ to Angel Gabriel during the Annunciation.

“We should never be afraid to be like Jesus,” Fr. Cabrera said as he challenged everyone to invite their families to be one in the celebration of the Feast Day by attending the mass.

The second batch of the participants continued the Creative Prayer Station. It was followed by the Dawn Procession where all the participants prayerfully walked around the vicinity of the school to Quezon Medical Center, along the Quezon Avenue and back to the venue of the event.

After the Agape, the event was ended with the Morning Prayer and the final blessing. The celebration signifies the conception of the Virgin Mary in the womb of her mother, Saint Anne.
