Seven Junior Financial Investment Executives (JFINEX) join the Investagram Stock Market Challenge (ISMC) 2016 training last October 22, 2016 at Fullers Hall, Asian Institute of Management. ISMC, an annual competition, was organized by the Junior Confederation of Finance Associations-Philippines in partnership with Investagram. The Cordians who immersed themselves in the complex world of stock trading are Christian Sales, Paul Anthony Azures, Bobby Dhillon, Frensy Barreto, Babylyn Detal, Theresa Duero and Chary Jaca together with Mrs. Marilyn Iglesias.

Hundred business students listened to Mr. Edmund Lee, President and C.E.O of Caylum Trading Institute, as he tackled the basic and advance theories in Fundamental and Technical Analysis. Mr. Lee also shared the trends today such as the 15% stock rally since elections and the 6.2% decline last 2 months. To help the student traders, he also shared some misconception, reality, understanding and filtering fundamentals in trading stocks. The misconceptions, according to him, are 1. Chart chart na lang, 2. No one knows the future and 3. Why do fundamental? When you’re here for a day or two?. While the reality are: 1. Everyone will have different interpretations, 2. In the long term, prices are driven by earnings. In the short term, prices are also driven by the perception of earnings. 3. Jesse Livermore: “It was never my thinking that made the big money for me, It was always my sitting”. Mr. Lee also elaborated about Understanding Fundamentals (Quantitative vs Qualitative): Target prices (Tps) are not final answers, Earnings will always be main drivers and in Stock Market, there will always be a story behind. While in filtering Fundamentals (High Growth and Mega Trends) the Historical Earnings Growth, the Industry-wide trends (i.e infrastructure), the Catalyst (i.e China Relationship) and other Related events will affect your stock position. At the end, Mr. Lee advice to “Use Volatility to your advantage”

The 2nd speakers, J.C Bisnar, COO and Co-founder of Investagram shared his experience by saying that you need to know when and what to buy and sell and that a trader should focus on things that you can control such as 1. Strategy 2. Portfolio Allocation and 3. Trade Management. He also shared the core of technical analysis which is the support and resistance wherein support equates to demand and resistance equates to supply. At the end he shared that the best things is to trade within the range, to buy low and sell high and should always take note of price patterns as patterns lead to ranges, the breakout determines the next direction.

The last speaker(s) was 3 university students namely Miggy Santos (Ateneo De Manila University), George Tan and Stanly Chan (UP Diliman) who are experienced student traders. They shared different insight such as “price action is king”, 2 types of stocks according to movement wherein 45 degrees are usually blue chips stocks meanwhile 90 degrees stocks are penny stocks and to always look for a mentor that will help you give more understanding on the stock market.

The ISMC training equipped the Cordians to pick their stocks starting October 17, 2016 and end it with an earnings on December 29, 2016 to capture the prize.
