“Basain, sabunin, kuskusin, kuskusin!” Here’s a line from a song about personal hygiene that seems to be a crowd favorite, and by crowd, this meant the pupils of Munting Paaralan ni Hermana Fausta (MPH) from Brgy. Barra, Lucena City. As an academic activity for the Second Year AB Communication students, they launched Grand “Ligo” Day with the theme “Kalinisan ng katawan tungo sa kalusugan,” a personal hygiene-focused program; teaching kids how to take care of their bodies in the most fun of ways possible.
The program, which lasted for one half day, consisted of a video presentation, storytelling, coloring session and the most awaited part, the Grand “Ligo.” With the help of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Lucena City (BFP) and Quezon Metropolitan Water District (QMWD), the pupils of MPH enjoyed the shower of clean water and bursts of soap bubbles as the AB Communication students joined in with the splash and at the same time, taught the pupils how to properly clean themselves. The video presentation about proper cleaning served as an instant hygiene manual guide for the pupils. Tiny hands and feet moved along with joyful music as they scrubbed themselves using the hygiene kit provided by the AB Communication students. As they dried those little, clean bodies up, a breakfast was prepared for the pupils to complete and add zest to the morning program. The event ended by declaring who had the best hand during the coloring session and of course, a closing remarks by the program head of AB Communication, Dr. Maria Zorayda A. Torres, and a prayer to give thanks as another successful AB Communication event ended.
The Grand “Ligo” Day of the ABComm 2 is intended to enter-educate (entertain-educate) the MPH pupils on the value of personal hygiene. With smiles on the MPH pupils’ faces, the ABComm students will make this event their regular community outreach program to add to the Bullit Comm Day, which is now on its third year of holding. The Grand “Ligo” Day is a proof that a simple act of cleanliness can improve the lives of people – one little pupil at a time.
