Cordian employees and selected College students of Sacred Heart College (SHC), Lucena City joyfully celebrated the Feast of St. Louise de Marillac in Lucena City Jail on May 9, 2018 from 8:00 to 11:00 in the morning.

The feast day started with the celebration of Holy Eucharist officiated by the school’s chaplain Rev. Fr. Andrew Hernandez. Sr. Leticia “Letty” G. Derilo, DC, Sister Servant, shared the life of St. Louise de Marillac, highlighting the “many faces” of St. Louise de Marillac. (1) Contemplative or “Mapagnilay”, a woman of prayer that everything she did was offered to God; (2) Organizer or “Tagapagbuo” she was the one who formed the group of Ladies of Charity and Daughters of Charity; (3) Formator or “Tagapaghubog” she was a teacher, similar to what the SHC personnel did in Munting Paralan ni Hermana Fausta; (4) Accomplished Woman or “Babaeng-Ganap” a widow, a teacher, and a good friend. She was a loving Mother or “Mapagmahal na Ina” who took care of her son, the poor and the Daughters of Charity; (5) Servant of the Poor or “Tagapaglingkod” she helped the poor and the sickly along with other works of charity.

After the mass, the food and goods were distributed to the inmates by groups from the SHC personnel assigned to each prison cell. Female also had the opportunity to sell their lovely handmade crafts which were made up of beads and other materials. There were cute key-chains, colorful and shiny knit pouches, cellphone holders, wallets, cozy and creative bags, and lampshades made up of scratch materials, etc.

The program proper continued with the joyful tandem of Mrs. Analiza del Pilar and Mrs. Nelly Seranilla as the facilitators. Games like relay and the boat is sinking were cheerfully given to the inmates. The BJMP girl dancers entertained the Cordians with their dance numbers.

“Ang mga nangyayari sa ating pang-araw-araw na buhay ay mahalaga”, the Vice President for Academics (VP-ARC), Dr. Luzviminda Calzado said in her closing remarks. She explained how important it is to be thankful to God despite the challenges they encountered. She gave thanks also to the Chief Ms. Adelaida Naburada for allowing the community to be with them in the feast day. Rev. Fr. Andrew Hernandez closed the program with a prayer.

The feast day did not end with the program at the jail. The Non-teaching and Maintenance staff (NTMS) personnel proceeded to the Audio-visual Resources AVR) in the afternoon. A quiz bee about St. Louise de Marillac was conducted by Mrs. Nelly Seranilla, Coordinator of Institutional Pastoral Involvement with Mrs. Ma. Marietta A. Asia, Executive Director of HRD as the scorer. The staff were divided into four groups. The facilitator challenges the stock knowledge of the employees and they proved how they love St. Louise de Marillac. Group 1 obtained the 1stplace; Group 4, 2nd place, Group 2, 3rd place and Group 3 4th place with corresponding prizes of Php 600.00, Php 400.00, Php 300.00 and Php 200.00. This simple celebration of the Feast day of St. Louise de Marillac ended with a “salu-salo” at the SHC canteen.

The Cordian employees were very thankful to the school administration for the joyous celebration.
