The search for the Ten Outstanding Jose Rizal Model Student of the Philippines (JRMSP) is a nationwide contest open for the collegiate level organized by the Order of the Knights of Rizal (Chartered under Republic Act 646). This has been successfully conducted in the last 19 years which aims to recognize student who best optimized the Rizalian qualities of academic excellence and student leadership in campus and community activities. The contest is open to all public and private colleges and universities in the country.

Paul Mark Mercado – BSN IV student in the College of Nursing was chosen as the representative of Sacred Heart College for the Search for the Ten Outstanding Jose Rizal Model Student of the Philippines after satisfactorily meeting the requirements (similar from the JRMSP) contest of the Campus Selection Committee composed of SHC’s Dean of the Higher Education, Vice President for Academics and Dean of Student Affairs Office. The criteria for the selection were academic excellence, student leadership (Local, regional and national), verbal communication and personality projection and appearance.
The application letter was sent last December 2, 2007 to the International Headquarters of the Knights of Rizal in Manila. Paul Mark was included among the top 20 finalist who qualified for final interview which was conducted last December 13, 2007 in Manila together with other finalist who came from schools in the

National Capital Region and from Provinces nationwide.
Last December 14, 2007 at the Ceremonial Hall, International Headquarters, Knight of Rizal Building, Bonifacio Drive, Port Area Manila, Paul Mark Mercado was awarded as one of the Ten Outstanding Jose Rizal Model Students of the Philippines. He received cash prize, two medals (for being one of the finalists and winner) and a trophy.
