Sacred Heart College President Sr. Fe Gedalanga, D.C. signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Hon. Rafael P. Nantes, Governor of Quezon Province last November 26 to jointly implement the COMPACT FARMING AND ANIMAL PRODUCTION PROJECT, which addresses one of the SHC thrusts ---- to alleviate extreme hunger and poverty.
This collaboration between the Provincial Government of Quezon through the Office of Provincial Agriculture and the Research and Development Division and Sacred Heart College aims to:
1. Give the community awareness, adaptability, acceptability for a family-driven approach in attaining, securing household food and nutritional needs and requirements;
2. Help augment income stability and likewise lessen the freezing effect of the food shortage experience in the country today;
3. Transform and alleviate the economic standard of participating household/cooperators and the communities as well
.
Witnesses to the MOA-signing were Dr. Josefina Parentela, SHC Vice-President for Academics, Research, Christian and Vincentian Formation; Domingo J. Mamasig, Quezon Provincial Agriculturist; and Milo C. Sadim, Supervising Agriculturist and Chief of the Research and Development Division of the Provincial Agriculture Office.
The path breaking Project was signed in the Kalilayan Hall, provincial government complex in Lucena City. It will be completed for a period of one year from December 2008 to October 2009.
Compact farming and animal production will have two pioneering sites: first is the 100 square meter piece of land behind the SHC Faculty Room; second is the 1,000 square meter land within the SHC Eco Park.
