SHC Personnel Attend 3-day Orientation-Seminar

By: Kathy Ursolino "The HEART Publication"

“Empowering communities… building futures” is now the tagline of Sacred Heart College after its founding anniversary’s “125 years and beyond… transforming lives”, according to Dr. Josefina M. Parentela, Vice President for Academics, Research, Christian and Vincent Formation, on the first day of the 3-day orientation of all SHC personnel held at the school’s Audio-Visual Room from June 1 to 3.

Day 1

With the new tagline comes a challenge as the SHC President Sr. Fe G. Gedalanga, D.C. gave her message to all SHC personnel to “let go of safe and comfortable traditions to give way to innovations… remain faithful to our mission.”

As such, a session on understanding and living out the Vision and Mission of the school was carried out by the Christian and Vincent Formation team headed by Sr. Rosa Lyn Doromal, D.C. together with the Vincentian Formation Coordinator, Mr. Narciso Cruzat Jr. and Campus Ministry Coordinator, Mr. Rey Rodil.

Earlier that day was devoted to a presentation of the accomplishments of all the departments of SHC for the A.Y. 2008 – 2009. Improvements in some departments were also mentioned, highlighted by the new canteen services, in cooperation with the IT department, for the students and personnel; on-the-job training in Singapore of the BSBA students; new curriculum of the College of Nursing; and new courses, Early Childhood and Special Education, in the College of Education.

Dr. Parentela headed the first day of the institutional orientation-seminar.

Day 2

The second day began with the summary of what transpired on the first day. This was soon followed by the presentation of school activities for the A. Y. 2009 – 2010 by Dr. Juanito A. Merle, the Vice President for Student Services and External Affairs. The day continued on with the discussion about Human Resource Department matters and the financial assistance being offered by the school and other government and non-government agencies for the students and personnel as well.

Dr. Merle was the moderator of the institutional orientation-seminar on its second day.

Day 3

The final day of the institutional orientation-seminar became more special because of the guest speakers, a mother and daughter tandem of Dr. Mila P. Mendoza and Joannie Pauline P. Mendoza.

13-year old Joannie mesmerized all SHC personnel in the morning session when the teenage speaker talked about the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, each with its own equivalent discipline that could guide everyone in becoming a Christ-centered and Vincentian inner-directed individual.

In the afternoon, the equally amazing Dr. Mila P. Mendoza, a consultant of the DC-SLMES schools, lectured on Christ-centered work ethics that could lead all SHC personnel to attaining excellence in performing their tasks at work by being ethical, efficient and effective. Before the day ended, Mrs. Soledad V. Montero of the HR Department announced the new appointments of some SHC personnel for the A. Y. 2009 – 2010.

Mrs. Lilibeth Arabis of the Finance Department hosted the last day of the institutional orientation-seminar.

Each day started off with an opening prayer highlighted by the Paschal candle, led by the CVF team.
