“JFINEX REACHING OUT: Improve Quality of Life through Livelihood Training”

To live out the core value of Sacred Heart College in becoming advocates for persons in poverty situations, the Junior Financial and Investment Executives organized a simultaneous Community Outreach Project (COP) aptly themed “JFINEX REACHING OUT: Improve Quality of Life though Livelihood Training”.

JFINEX Reaching Out is the first major COP activity of the Junior Financial and Investment Executives in which, the members simultaneously conducted a livelihood training to three far-flung communities in Lucena City and Tayabas City. It happened last April 6, 2018 (Friday) simultaneously in Brgy. Barra, Dalahican, Lucena City, Brgy. Wakas, Tayabas City and in Landfill in Brgy. Silangang Mayao, Lucena City.

The JFINEX Adviser Dean Arnel L. Cadeliña assigned 20 students for each area to conduct the livelihood training and the students assigned in Landfill were joined and headed by Ms. Yvonne Mier while the other communities were headed by the JFINEX Junior and Senior Officers and Social workers.

The faculty and students were greeted by the members of the partner communities with a warm welcome. The activity started at exactly 1pm prior in an opening prayer led by Jed Requintel in Brgy. Barra, Aaron Paez in Brgy. Wakas, and Ma. Luz Uy in Landfill. Then, it was followed by the opening remarks of the coordinator of Community Outreach Program Mrs. Vilma Oronan in Brgy. Barra, Incoming JFINEX president Kristine Basilio, in Brgy. Wakas, and the professor-in-charge Ms. Yvonne Mier, in Landfill.

To formally start the activity, the emcees of the respective communities introduced the students that will conduct the livelihood training. The activity was started through the first talk proper and demonstration of the first assigned product which is the Macapuno balls. The assigned group in every community demonstrated the ingredients of their product, the price of every ingredients, the procedures on how to make Macapuno Balls, and the possible income they will earn if they sold those Macapuno balls. They were also joined by some parents in making a macapuno balls.

The second talk proper and demonstration was all about the making of Graham Balls. The assigned group in every community also demonstrated the ingredients of their product, the price of every ingredients, the procedures on how to make a graham balls and the possible income they will earn if they sold it per packs/pieces.

The third talk proper and demonstration was all about the making of pastillas. The assigned group in every community demonstrated the ingredients of their product, the price of every ingredients, the procedures on how to make a pastillas and the possible income they will earn if they sold it per packs/pieces.

The fourth and last talk proper and demonstration was all about the making of Shing-a-ling crackers in which the assigned group every community demonstrated the ingredients of their product, the price of every ingredients, the procedures on how to make a shing-a-ling and the possible income they will earn if they sold it per packs/pieces.

After the talk proper of all assigned groups, the students and faculty distributed the final products to every members of the partner communities in which those products will serve as the start-up products they will use in their kabuhayan. To sum up the whole activity, the members of the organization really felt relieved and fulfilled when they saw the parents happy and looking excited as they received the final products that will serve their start-up for their kabuhayan. The business faculty and students realized that even in the simple ways of giving, there’s still more people who can appreciate no matter how big or small it is. The activity ends by saying the closing remarks made by the assigned Junior Officers in each community. It was followed by the closing prayer of the assigned member of the organization. As the students leave the communities they feel their hearts beating with joy knowing that they accomplished again a worthy COP that strengthen the Cordian-Vincentian values of everybody.
