Twelve Cordian SCAn leaders, animators, chaplains, alumni and members of the Student Catholic Action of the Philippines (SCAP) from various schools gathered in De La Salle University, Taft Avenue, Manila last April 16, 2016 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the movement with the theme: “Bunga ng Otsenta: SCA at 80, Our Story to Sustainability”.

The occasion started with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided by Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, SJ, DD. of Cagayan de Oro and a former SCAn. In his homily, he highlighted the 5Cs or attributes that a SCAns should have: conscience, for an SCAn should have a clean and unquestionable leadership; competence, to be able to radiate its vision and mission; compassion, how else should one be a good leader if one doesn’t know compassion; companionship, for an SCAn’s companion can tell what kind of person one is; and commitment to SCA’s vision and mission. Alongside with the homily is the renewal of commitment of each SCAn to challenge them to become more faithful and work for the sustainability of the movement.

The second highlight of the occasion was the ‘Kwentuhan: Bunga ng Otsenta’ (Talk show) hosted by Mrs. Sonia Roco. She interviewed Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, SJ, DD. Former Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban, SCA Alumnus, Steven Nelson Segura, the SCA College National Coordinating Council Chair from the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos, Dr. Ma. Noelyn Dano, Climate Change Desk-FABC and an SCA Alumna, Ms. Vangie Fortades, SCA Animator for 20years at Laurel High School. Their stories of how they were transformed by the movement and how they are now sharing the fruits of their experiences inspired the participants.

Launching of the 80th Anniversary theme song entitled LIPAD! (Kaya natin ‘to!), Logo, new Vision-Mission, Formation Program and 1st Cine Mobile was done to make the celebration truly a source of inspiration and guidance for the sustainability of the movement.
