Cordian SCAns participate 1st National SCA Earthkeepers Summit

Eight Cordian SCAns with their moderator Mr. Rey C. Rodil participated the 1st National Student Catholic Ation (SCA) Earthkeepers Summit at Tagbilaran City, Bohol, November 10-13.

With the theme “Taking a Closer Look at our Common Home with a Diamond and an Oak,” 182 SCAn young leaders from the Philippines and International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS) gathered to respond on the call of Pope Francis’ Encyclical ‘Laudato Si.’ SCAns arrived on the first day at University of Bohol to have their orientation for the immersion in different exposure sites at selected islands in Bohol. They had lunch at designated parishes with their foster families and then attended introduction mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary which was the venue of the summit workshops.

On the second day after the exposure at different sites, two resource speakers shared about the mother earth’s situation. In the morning, SCAn Maria Noelyn Dano, Ph. D. from the Climate Change Desk of Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) talked about the changes happening to our common home. Atty. Jose Aaron Pedrosa Jr., a Legal Consultant at Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ) Energy Group discussed about the Climate Change effects in our country in the afternoon.

Third day was filled with unity and completeness as the young leaders with their foster family attended the Solidarity Night prepared by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and Cm-Secretariat of the Diocese of Tagbilaran.

Young leaders refreshed their minds as they wondered with Mother Earth. Before the Solidarity night, the LOC prepared a plenary and a panel discussion after Fr. John Leydon, MSSC, a Columban Missionary priest from the Global Catholic Climate Movement-Pilipinas disussed about the Theological Reflection.

The fourth day became the most meaningful day of the whole summit for SCA Earthkeepers made their pledged on taking care of our Mother Earth (ME) when they come back to their respective schools. After the various workshops such as Arts for ME, Small and Big Steps for ME and Organizing for ME, SCAns had an Earthkeepers Fair Open House wherein young leaders showed some talents and actions that they will do to save the mother earth.
