The annual biggest gathering of IT enthusiasts in the province of Quezon continues to educate and to inspire students, teachers and other professionals as UNITE (UNifying IT Enthusiasts) 2017, organized by the College of Computer Science of Sacred Heart College, returns for its 9th year on January 20, 2017 at St. Jude Cooperative Event Center in Isabang, Tayabas City. This year’s theme is “Make IT a Difference: Making, Advocating and Keeping the Enhancement of Information Technology Access Different Innovations from Facing Empowerment to Render Excellence”.

Attended by participants from different schools namely Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP Lopez and Unisan), Our Lady of Victory Integrated School (OLAV), Lutucan National High School, Chrisville (Candelaria and Lucena), Bristol Integrated School, InfoTab, Pagbilao Academy, St. Philomena School, Dalubhasaan ng Lungsod ng Lucena (DLL), College of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, Yllana Education Scholarship, and Sacred Heart College (IBED and SHS), the annual event has consistently served as a source of the latest trends and information about IT, inspiring the students and teachers to keep themselves connected to the dynamic world of Information Technology.

Sr. Mary Ann L. Guevara, D.C., Vice-President for Administrative Services & Finance; Program Head, Accountancy and Sister Servant, delivered the Inspirational and Welcome Message.

The first speaker, Mr. Benji Javier, who is one of the pioneers in Desktop Visualization in the Philippines, shared about N Computing, a desktop virtualization company that manufactures hardware and software to create virtual desktops (sometimes called zero clients or thin clients) which enable multiple users to simultaneously share a single operating system instance. Mr. Rollan Bañez, the second speaker, who is a certified Adobe Expert in the Philippines, tackled the basic features of Adobe Muse, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Design Master, and Character Animation. He also demonstrated some skills in editing photos using the said applications.

The third speaker was Mr. Stan Jalbuena, an alumnus of the College of Computer Science in Sacred Heart College, provided insights on how to become more creative in creating multimedia presentations. Being a Photographer and Video Editor/Cinematographer for Jason Magbanua, (a popular videographer), Mr. Jalbuena also shared personal experiences on handling pressure and turning them into positive inspiration in practicing and enhancing one’s craft.

Mr. Lloyd Luna, the fourth and final speaker made the event even more interesting. Luna is a funny motivational speaker who is known in social media as #PambansangInspirasyon. He is also a technopreneur, utilizing the internet and the social media to promote business and to influence people. The participants were all ears during Mr. Luna’s talk. He talked about personal empowerment. With his funny antics and hilarious punch lines, matched with audio-visual presentations, he surely caught the attention of the crowd. He lectured on things that have practical applications, making complex concepts into simpler ideas. Truly, he was able to sustain the interest of the participants all throughout his talk.

Before the end of the event, raffle prizes were given to the lucky attendees. Mrs. Eleonor J. Marquez, Program Head of the College of Computer Science also distributed the plaques and tokens of appreciation to the invited speakers and certificates to all the participants.

Mr. Eduard Mancilla, SHC faculty member and Aljim Claroniño, alumnus of the College of Computer Science emceed the event.
