Boragay wins best conductor; ACC grabs gold, silver in Cantata Macau Int’l competition

Joel Boragay, a Higher Education Department faculty member, was awarded as Best Conductor in the 4th Cantata Macau International Choir Festival and Competition held last November 8-10, in Macau, China.

His group, the Anima Christi Chorale (ACC), won Silver Award for Sacred Music category and Gold Award for Open Category. ACC also qualified for the Grand Prix Round for the best five choirs.

Fifteen participating choirs from the Philippines, Macau, Singapore, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Hongkong, and Mainland China competed in the said Cantata under the theme “Music is Life.”

The jury is composed of Stephen Lik-Hin Lam (China), Roni Sugiarto (Indonesia), Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan (Philippines), Dr. Victoria Vakulishyna (China/Europe), Terrence Toh (Singapore), and Robert Del Gado (Philippines).

Cantata Macau is a unique endeavor in the international choral scene that seeks to create a platform for artistic innovation and professional performance development in choral singing.

Anima Christi Chorale is a community-based choir composed of students and young professionals from Lucena City and nearby towns. Some of its members are students, faculty, and alumni of Sacred Heart College.
