The HED Student Development and Activity Office in collaboration with the SHC Chamber Singers organized a Summer Choral Workshop and Training entitled “Crescendo” last June 21 and 22, 2019 at the Audio-Visual Room. The objective of the activity is to revitalize the organization and recruit new members from the incoming first year students who will share their gift of talent and music to the school community.
The choral workshop started with welcome remarks by Mr. Rey Rodil, Director for HED Student Development, Activities and Discipline Office, and Mr. Jeffrey R. Bautista, Moderator of the SHC Chamber Singers. The session proper was facilitated by Mr. Joel A. Boragay, faculty of the Higher Education Department and Choirmaster of the Anima Christi Chorale; a community-based choral group in Lucena City.
The sessions started with basic music theory to equip the students with the necessary skills in reading music sheets and vocal techniques that will help them sing in harmony. It was followed by exercises that were geared towards developing participants’ skills and techniques as a starting chorister. The members were also classified according to the voice section where they should belong and started learning new songs.
The second day of the workshop was utilized for vocalization and learning songs in four parts. In conclusion, the new members of the group were thankful for the chance to be part of the SHC Chamber Singers and for the free workshop and training. Everyone also had committed to sing with their heart and be of service to the school community through singing in institutional masses and other school activities.
