The Ministry of Ecology of the Diocese of Lucena initiated the Quezon Ecology Summit with the theme, "Ugnayan ng Buhay, Ugnayan ng Mamamayan: Quezon Kalikasan Protektahan!!!"
Cordian student-volunteers welcomed the Dioceses of Gumaca, Infanta, and Lucena at Sentro Pastoral, Isabang, Lucena City on October 5, 2019 with a Holy Mass presided by Most Rev. Mel Rey Uy, Bishop of Lucena. Rev. Fr. Warren R. Puno of Ministry of Ecology Lucena led the opening preliminaries, national anthem, and discussed the rationale and overview of the Ecological Summit.
Environmental global solution was presented by Yeb Saño of Greenpeace Southeast Asia. Afterwards, Ian Rivera of the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice gave emphasis to climate emergency and fight against coal. Pope Francis's Laudato Si and Rights of Nature were discussed by Fr. Edwin Gariguez while environmental laws in relation to environmental rights were presented by Atty. Ma. Generosa T. Mislang, National Coordinator of Alternative Law group.
In the afternoon an open forum panel discussion was led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Provincial Government of Quezon, Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and Department of Energy. Separate sessions about fight against coal, renewable energy, Kaliwa Dam, plastic campaign, mining/quarry, and the role of the youth on climate change were also held. Tanggol Kalikasan presented its ecological plan after the hour-long separate sessions. The event ended after the commitment signing of every participant to defend and protect God’s creation. The masters of ceremony were Eunice Jane L. Salubo and Victor S. Pornillosa.
