HED welcomes first year students in acquaintance party

The Higher Education Department of SHC had its annual acquaintance party last July 26, 2019 at Rendu Cultural Center and Gymnasium with the theme, "Cordians: Beloved, Gifted, Empowered."

The program started at 5:00 in the afternoon with a prayer led by some members of the SHC Chamber Singers, followed by a welcome remarks of Mr. Narciso G. Cruzat, Jr., Vice-President for Student Development, Well- Being and External Linkages (SDWEL). Mr. Cruzat reminded the students about the value of contentment, that "how much we enjoy what we have is more important than how much we have." In closing, he also emphasized how the youth are loved by the institution, gifted by God and empowered in mission.

The dance presentation of the HED faculty followed. They wowed the audience as they danced the millennial beat. The quiz bee and the yell competition were the highlights of the event. The College of Computer Science won the quiz bee while the College of Accountancy bagged its back-to-back championship. The College of Management Accounting also thrilled the crowd as they performed a yell introducing themselves as a new department in the institution. The intermission of all the colleges dancing to the kiddie songs and the party accompanied with a live band followed.

To formally welcome the first year and transferee students, the school President, Sr. Josefina R. Quiachon DC, the Sisters’ community, the Christian Vincentian Formation team, college deans, SDO Director, faculty members and seniors prayed over them. The seniors distributed pins with a message “Certified, Beloved, Gifted, Empowered Cordian” and bread to new students symbolize their acceptance to live out the values of true Cordians and children of God. "There are deeper reasons to celebrate the occasion," Mr. Cruzat stressed “in the hope that the students would look beyond the fun of the occasion and truly realize its essence.”
