Sacred Heart College and SARCA construction signed a contract on November 16 to start the construction of the 5-storey Integrated Basic Education (IBED) building. Construction is set to begin on January 4, 2021 with project completion expected in 18 months. Present during the ceremonious signing were representatives from SARCA Estate Development Corporation headed by Engr. Recaredo Sarmiento IV together with SHC administrators and employees headed by Sr. President Ma. Luisa B. Javier, DC.
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Once the journey sets, another one begins. It’s such a wonderful journey that is the rebuilding of SHC. Many have contributed that we have arrived at this point of contract signing,” said Sr. Javier, who delivered the statement of purpose.
She also informed everyone that the contract signing preceded with the awarding of contract. She recalled that when they acted with the project, they invited bidders and discerned on choosing the best contractor. It has to be well thought of, she added.
“Please relate to our donors that no single centavo [for the construction] will be wasted. The contract took us long enough to be able to stimulate the way how the project will be. It has to be a win-win situation for both,” she conveyed.
She also emphasized the importance of the gathering and said that it will “let our mission partners know their importance as its end-users, that’s why they have to be present – our minds and hearts must be held together for this project to succeed.”
“We pray pervently for good weather. We will also be reminding one another if there is a need to fast-track. Please share to them (stakeholders) that this contract signing gives us hope that within 18 months, we are going to see what we all dreamed of,” Sr. Malu ended.
The next part of the program was the delivery of the pledge of commitment from the head of SARCA Estate Development Corporation, Engr. Recaredo Sarmiento IV. In his brief but meaningful pledge, he reiterated that they will maintain the highest level of professionalism and will stick with the terms of the contract as stipulated.
Afterwards, Sylvia Ingente, Executive Director of the Human Resources Department led the blessing of the contract. It was held through a prayer service with the help of the entire Christian and Vincentian Formation team.
The highlight of the program was the actual signing of contract. Aside from the heads of both parties (SHC and SARCA), the signing was also witnessed by Sr. Ma. Ruby Engay DC, Vice-President for Administrative Services and Finance/Building Construction Manager, Ar./EnP Hector Michael Balanak, Principal Architect, Engr. Emifelia L. Salanguit, President of ELS Consultancy and Management, Inc, and Engr. Marcel Veluya, Office Engineer, SARCA Estate Development Corporation.
The five-storey building will house the IBED classrooms, IBED-related offices, computer laboratories, clinic, and other various specialized learning/laboratory rooms. This is according to Engr. Elda Aranilla, Building Construction Assistant Manager, who also served as event’s master of ceremony.
