A pleasant morning to Sr. Josefina R. Quianchon, DC, our President, my fellow Sisters, members of the Expanded President Council, members of the Faculty, Non- Teaching Personnel, Maintenance and Staff.
May I take this opportunity to welcome you all and to extend a further word of welcome to the new members of Sacred Heart College Family. I wish to congratulate each of you, first on having secured your work place and second for having the good sense to choose to work at Sacred Heart College. Your coming at SHC marks a new chapter in the story of your life. This chapter is a bit different. This can seem as daunting as it is exciting, as challenging as it is empowering. But the great thing is that you are doing something that you have chosen to do, not something that was chosen for you by others.
The Opening Day of our School is certainly a moment that we should all savor and enjoy. If you take quick look around you, I’m sure you will agree with me that our School has come a long way in a different ambiance for almost six months after the devastating fire of January 1, 2019.
It all started as a dream. Sacred Heart College envisioned the dream of establishing A WORLD CLASS EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION; a School that would mold and guide future generations of enlightened minds- I wish to share 3 pieces of motivational thoughts which I got from my readings:
• TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LEARNING UP TO NOW - what you have achieved up to now is now behind you- you have turned a new page. Now you must write the script in your professional life. You will now be expected to be more self0 reliant and inner-directed. You are responsible for what you do, for ensuring that you do the work that will be required of you. Part of being responsible for yourself is recognizing when you need the support of others. TALKS TO PEOPLE… your friends, co-employees, peer support contribute hugely to employee’s success.
• MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR TIME - one of the great things at Sacred Heart College, life is the range of new experience that will be available. There are abundant opportunities to flourish as an employee and as a person. At SHC many of the opportunities are built in your programmes while others are extra-curricular. What you teach in the classroom is applied in the workplace, families and communities. We know that availing extra-curricular opportunities is linked to high quality engagement and success. GETTING INVOLVED HELPS YOUR LEARNING/ HELPS YOUR PROFESSION.
• EMBRACE DIFFERENCES - you have come from different backgrounds and communities to pursue your ambition to be employed. In a large institution, it can be tempting to stick with the familiar and that is especially true with respect to the people with whom you associate. But it would be a lost opportunity to stick with your own a;; the time – embrace differences. Get to know people who are different to you. It could be someone from a different part of the country, of a different ethnicity, religion, who has different views to you, who has different interests and perspectives. You will get a better understanding both of yourself and of those whore are different to you. Knowing others and understanding others will help you develop as tolerant individual. To recap: Take responsibility of your learning up to know; Make the most of your time for research, strategies and work experiences and Embrace differences. With these few words, I wish you rewarding experience this school year 2019-2020.
On behalf of my fellow Sisters and Administrators, we would like to extend our gratitude to all the role players that made this Orientation a reality.
You are all most welcome to stay here today and the next two days. I hope you enjoy the rest of the orientation program and thank you for sharing this special event with us. Have a great day!
